‘The Legend’, designed by South African champion, Hugh Baiocchi, and opened in 1994, is the crowning achievement of the Belle Mare Resort, located along one of the most superb beaches on the island.
Each of the 18 holes has distinctive characteristics. Superb fairways are laid in the heart of an indigenous forest, culminating on velvet greens, made to US PGA regulations.
The Legend Golf course is home to the “Johnnie Walker Classic” and to the Mauritius Open – first played in December 1994 – an event which has been won by the likes of Rodger Davis, Michael McLean, Philip Golding, Jonathan Lomas and Scotland’s Gordon Sherry. From December 2009, The Legend also hosts the European Senior Tour.
The Links is a Championship Golf Course designed by Rodney Wright and Peter Allis, and opened in 2002.
Par 72 with 5942m, the 18th hole is the signature hole along turquoise waters. Like its twin the Legend, the Links offers a Golf Academy by professional and qualified instructors.
The natural setting of the course, over rolling links style terrain, is complemented by excellent fairways and firm greens. A special feature is the volcanic rock, piled high to form pyramid like structures that dot the course.
Plenty of water makes for many challenges and afternoon sea-breezes can make a difference of 2 or 3 clubs to your selection. The longest put is located at hole No. 10 with a distance of 566 yd.
The Links has wide open spaces and rolling undulating terrain. You find water hazards in 6 holes, and some of these are very tough.
Designed by the famous golf champion, Bernhard Langer, Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club is an 19 holes golf course which lies on the east coast of Mauritius. The island golf course is reachable only by a ‘special golf’ boat shuttle from its private jetty or by a scenic helicopter flip. The spectacular golf course in Mauritius covers 38 hectares of the iconic Ile aux Cerfs Island, with the holes snaking along the preserved tropical flora and fauna of the island, boasting naturally in the undulating topography with volcanic rock outcrops, lakes and gullies.
All 19 holes have views of the ocean – some with glimpses across clearings through the trees; others by coming close to the shore. The unique island golf course of Ile aux Cerfs is definitely one of the most stupendous golf courses in the world, a “must play” as Colin Montgomerie puts it. It has been recognised to be the no. 1 of the Top-20 Golf Courses to play, once in your lifetime, by Golf World magazine.
Designed by Ernie Els, Anahita Golf is a 7,372-yard, 18-hole, par-72 championship course with large fairways and five sets of tees. Six stunning oceanfront holes culminate in a final shot that is among the most spectacular in the world.
Built to USGA standards, carefully woven into the tropical sanctuary, the course is set against lush mountains and fringed by the vast crystal-clear lagoon. For sheer beauty, there are few courses in the world that can match the Anahita. This course only opened at 2008, but has already established itself as one of the best on the island.
On a clear day, with the volcanic mountains and rolling green hills on one side, and turquoise blue water on another, there really is no lovelier place to play golf in Mauritius. The championship, multi award-winning course, which winds through the foothills of Bel Ombre in the south of the island, was designed by renowned golf architect, Peter Matkovich.
In May 2015, Heritage Golf Club made international golfing history by hosting the first ever tri-sanctioned golf tournament in the world between the European, Sunshine and Asian Tours. In 2017 it hosted the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open again, the biggest sporting event in the region. At the same time, it became the first Indian Ocean course to host a European Tour Event and become part of the exclusive “Race to Dubai” calendar.
The 18-hole championship course caters for golfers of every calibre. Spread over 205 acres, the course has mainly wide, undulating fairways carved through a sugar cane plantation with majestic views of the ocean from most holes. Sizeable putting surfaces and well-spaced holes give the golfer plenty of freedom. The beautiful course is complete with lakes, boulders, thick vetiver grasses and palm tree jungles that add to the challenge. Numerous bunkers, water hazards and blind greens are a highlight, with the Citronniers and St Martin Rivers both crossing the course and adding their own twist. While being technically challenging for low handicappers, the 5 tee positions on every hole ensure recreational golfers will find the course plenty of fun too…
The Tamarina Golf Course, an 18-hole par 72 Championship golf course designed by Rodney Wright, is not only a haven of peace but also a golfer’s dream with gentle breezes and the lowest average rainfall of the island!
This challenging course undulates over rugged savannah land framed with mature trees and crossed by the Rempart River. The holes have been specially designed to give spectacular views of the impressive Mount Rempart and the towering mountain range. Some holes also offer great views over the crisp crystal clear blue lagoon of the Tamarin Bay.
Golfers will love the contrast between the rough surroundings, the smoothness of the rolling greens and wide fairways that adds to the experience.
